　　（一） 教材地位和教学内容分析

　　本课是高一必修模块1第4单元的阅读课型，这单元围绕earthquakes这一主题开展听、说、读、写多种教学活动。由于本单元生词量较大，并且Warming up可挖掘的东西较多，因此把Reading设计为本单元的第2课时。本课型是单元整体教学的重要环节，为学生的语言学*、语法学*提供了载体，并且是学生获取信息的主要来源。“Reading――― A NIGHT THE EARTH DIDN’T SLEEP” 具体描写1976年唐山大地震的震前、震中和震后。本篇文章词汇量大，运用了大量的动词、复杂的数字，出现许多定语从句，篇幅较长，并且采用一些修辞手法，对学生的语言阅读能力提出了更高的要求。但文章的结构较明显，较容易归纳出各部分的中心词。

　　（二）教学目标

　　根据新颁布的《普通高中英语课程标准（实验稿）》关于阅读课主要教学目标的具体描述，结合本课教学内容，具体从语言知识、语言技能、情感态度和文化意识三个方面制定如下教学目标。

　　1. 语言知识目标：

　　1）让学生了解唐山大地震，了解地震的成因、预兆、地震造成的损失，地震时的应急救生以及震后的救援。

　　2）训练学生的阅读技巧，提高阅读能力。侧重培养学生对文章的整体性结构的把握和挖掘作者写作的意图，突出培养学生以下3个方面的能力：

　　能够以较少的精力、较快的速度、较好的效果来大量识记英语单词，迅速扩大词汇量，是提高英语听说读写各项技能的基础。而*学生背单词都存在这样的现象：感觉背单词枯燥乏味，令人头昏脑涨，痛不欲生；或前背后忘，刚背过的单词第二天就忘了；或相互混淆，拼写相*意义相*的单词区分不清；或拼写不准确，10个单词只有7个能写，还可能多个字母、少个字母或错个字母。大量的有关英语记忆的文献资料及对我们学生的观察显示，学生学*单词的困惑主要在以下几个方面：

　　一、缺乏适当的方法，死记硬背效果差

　　许多学生都有这样的体会，学英语难，背英语单词更难。面对海量的英语单词，学*者日复一日、年复一年地投入了许多的时间和精力，但始终逃不掉背了忘，忘了再背，背了再忘的低级循环。造成这种局面的罪魁祸首就是现在大部分学生所采用的效率低下又耗费力的“死记硬背式”单词记忆方法。在英语学*中，有不少人试图把由26个字母组成的成千上万个英语单词死记硬背下来，这不能不说是我们记忆英语单词的一大误区。

　　我们的学生，尤其是非英语专业的学生普遍缺乏应有的词汇构成知识，对词根、词缀知之甚少。学生词汇记忆的主要来源，是课本里的词汇表。很多学生都是翻开书，一个个去背，试图在短时间内集中记忆。在这个过程中，学生往往只注意英文字母的拼写，而忽视了英文单词的读音、词意以及拼写之间的联系。

　　二、没有充分认识到中英文单词的区别

　　英语属于印欧语系，汉语属于汉藏语系。两大语系之间的巨大差异使*学生很难在汉语中找到与英语相似的地方或对应点，无法轻松实现语言的正迁移。

　　中文的书写系统是象形结构或者形声结构，而英文的书写系统则是与读音相关的。比如在汉语中，汉字“日”，是由符号"O"演变而来；汉字“田”，看起来就像是一片田地，汉字“苗”是由“*”和“田”组成的。而英语，却是一种字母语言，单词的拼写可以说是读音的.直接表现形式。在这一点上，汉语拼音与其相似。然而每个汉字都有一个读音，虽然它的拼音是由几个字母组成的。汉字“鸟”，拼音为"nlao"，用国际音标( IPA)表示为“[niao]”，但是“鸟”字的读音实际是一个音。而英语中，比如“introductory[intra'dAktari]'，它的读音是几个音节组成的。汉字的读音更像是英语中双元音，如“[aj]”和“[aw]’。

　　中文的书写环境，导致*学生偏向于视觉记忆。我们学*汉字时，总是要先观察汉字的结构，接着一遍遍地练*书写，直至掌握。将这种记忆方法迁移到英语学*过程中，固然对逻辑性的材料有帮助，却忽略了英语中拼写与发音的联系。因此，中英文书写系统的差别，导致学生忽视音节学*，机械地记忆单词，造成了单词记忆的困难，也使得许多学生对英语学*丧失了兴趣。因此，学生必须加强对语音的学*意识。语音学*绝不仅仅是要学生学会怎样发音，更要使学生理解英文的书写系统，树立起音节的意识，为以后的英语学*奠定良好的基础。

　　"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested."Yes, it is," Jerry said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. 　　Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma(创伤) center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.

　　I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I"d be twins. Wanna see my scars?" I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place.

　　"The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Jerry replied. "Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live."

　　"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness(知觉) ?" I asked.Jerry continued, "The paramedics(护理人员) were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, "He's a dead man."
