预警机即空中指挥预警飞机(Air Early Warning，AEW)，是为了克服雷达受到地球曲度限制的低高度目标搜索距离，同时减轻地形的干扰，将整套远程警戒雷达系统放置在飞机上，用于搜索、监视空中或海上目标，指挥并可引导己方飞机执行作战任务的飞机。大多数预警机有一个显著的特征，就是机背上背有一个大 “蘑菇”，那是预警雷达的天线罩。
