金风玉露其实就是指代秋天，金风golden wind; 玉露dew of jade. “相逢”一词，他采用了动词“embrace”,When Autumn’s Golden Wind embraces Dew of Jade, 保留了原文的美感也让西方读者明白其意境。

鹊桥，在我们的语境中是很有诗意的画面，我们自然会想起牛郎织女的爱情故事。但喜鹊magpie 在英语文化中却并不是美好的象征。为了避免文化差异引出的误解与美感丢失，许渊冲先生将“鹊桥”隐去而用homeward way代替，意思是“归家的路”，这样也没有丢失掉“鹊桥”在词句中的实际意义。
